Heart ailments, infectious diseases and cancer remain the world's top three killers, the UN health agency said on Monday.Heart attacks and related problems are the top killer, especially among women, claiming 29 percent of people who die each year, the World Health Organization said in a report on the global burden of disease. In second place, infectious diseases lead to 16.2 percent of worldwide deaths.Cancer, in third, claims 12.6 percent of global deaths, said the 146-page report, which is based on death registration data from 112 countries and estimates where reporting is incomplete. The figures are from 2004, the most recent records available on a wide scale, officials from WHO said. But the rankings are unchanged since 1990 when WHO first did a global check. Some 58.8 million people died worldwide in 2004, most of them over 60, the report said. Nearly one in five deaths was a child under 5.The heart disease death rate was virtually unchanged from WHO's previous study on death causes, based on 2002 figures. The rate for infectious diseases dropped from 2002, when they accounted for 19.1 of the world's deaths, partly because estimates for AIDS deaths were revised downward last year, said Colin Mathers, a WHO expert and lead author of the report.Women die more often from heart disease than men. The rate for females is 31.5 percent, and for males 26.8 percent, the report said.Mathers said the percentage for women was higher because there were more women living at older ages than men.But in general, men are more affected by heart diseases, he said."Men in many parts of the world have a higher risk," he said, adding that they are more often overweight or obese, get insufficient physical activity and eat more fat and salt.Dr Nieca Goldberg, an American Heart Association spokeswoman who was not linked to the WHO report, said: "Oftentimes women's symptoms are more subtle than men's so they are not recognized and the women don't seek medical attention as soon as they should.""For a long time cardiovascular disease was considered a man's disease," Goldberg said in an interview. Doctors therefore often failed to evaluate risk factors in women as aggressively as they should, she said.Higher rates of women in deaths from heart diseases have been observed since 1984 in the ed States, according to Goldberg.Filling out the top 12 causes of death are respiratory infections including pneumonia in fourth place, 7.2 percent; respiratory diseases, including asthma and allergies, 6.9 percent; accidental injuries and drownings, 6.6 percent; health problems of fetuses and newborns, 5.4 percent; digestive diseases, 3.5 percent; suicide, murder and conflict, 2.8 percent; neuropsychiatric disorders, 2.1 percent; diabetes, 1.9 percent; and maternal health problems related to pregnancy or birth 0.9 percent.Dr Ties Boerma, who heads WHO's statistics department, said there is always a time delay in assembling such data from a number of countries."Countries have a backlog of two, three years in publicizing their own information," he said.In nations where no death registration data are available, the figures are taken from research studies, which take a few years to get published, Boerma said. Living happily ever after needn't only be for fairy tales. Australian researchers have identified what it takes to keep a couple together, and it's a lot more than just being in love.A couple's age, previous relationships and even whether they smoke or not are factors that influence whether their marriage is going to last, according to a study by researchers from the Australian National University. The study, entitled "What's Love Got to Do With It", tracked nearly 2,500 couples - married or living together - from 2001 to 2007 to identify factors associated with those who remained together compared with those who divorced or separated. It found that a husband who is nine or more years older than his wife is twice as likely to get divorced, as are husbands who get married before they turn 25.Children also influence the longevity of a marriage or relationship, with one-fifth of couples who have kids before marriage - either from a previous relationship or in the same relationship - having separated compared to just nine percent of couples without children born before marriage.Women who want children much more than their partners are also more likely to get a divorce.A couple's parents also have a role to play in their own relationship, with the study showing some 16 percent of men and women whose parents ever separated or divorced experienced marital separation themselves compared to 10 percent for those whose parents did not separate. Also, partners who are on their second or third marriage are 90 percent more likely to separate than spouses who are both in their first marriage. Not surprisingly, money also plays a role, with up to 16 percent of respondents who indicated they were poor or where the husband - not the wife - was unemployed saying they had separated, compared with only nine percent of couples with healthy finances. And couples where one partner smokes and the other doesn't, are also more likely to have a relationship that ends in failure.Factors found to not significantly affect separation risk included the number and age of children born to a married couple, the wife's employment status and the number of years the couple had been employed. /200907/78011As she walks into the ballroom of an airport hotel, 20 women offer a collective(1) swoon(2). Then come reactions one would expect were reserved just for Oprah: the screeches(3), the tears, the fluttering hand over the heart. One woman is hyperventilating(4), breathlessly squealing(5): "Ommigod! It's Mo'Nique! It's Mo'Nique!"Looking like a plus-sized black Barbie in a green polka-dot(6) sundress, her hair in a playful flip, the 39-year-old actress-comedian is quickly engulfed(7) by her "fat girls." She embraces them, trying not to muss(8) her makeup with her own tears."I always think I'm going to do fine when I get to this point, but I know your tears," she tells them, each a finalist in the third year of her big-girl beauty competition, "Mo'Nique's F.A.T. Chance" — as in "Fabulous And Thick."With cameras rolling, Mo'Nique moves around the room proclaiming each woman "Miss F.A.T.". The first one-hour show, "Mo'Nique's F.A.T. Chance: The Road to Paris," aired Saturday and features these and 2,000 other women who answered open casting calls(9) in Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas.Of them, five were chosen to strut their stuff(10) in glamorous gowns on a runway at the Le Grand Hotel in Paris. The two-hour show, "Mo'Nique's F.A.T. Chance: Paris," ends with the ,000 grand prize winner and the crowning of a new Miss F.A.T."We wanted to go beyond the beauty pageant," Mo'Nique says, kicking off her high-heeled sandals(11) during a taping break(12). "We also wanted to create runway fashion shows, to give fat girls the option of saying, `Yeah, we've got this, too!' It's about taking the show to the next level."It's also about continuing to break stereotypes worldwide. "When we first went (to Paris), some of the places we went to had the same feeling as in America — like, `What? Fat women? No thank you.' But then there were people that totally got it.""What was so wonderful for me was that I was IN that group of women," says Mo'Nique, who lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Sidney Hicks, and their 21-month old twin boys. She has two teenage sons from a previous marriage."I'm the same woman that dreams of going to the fashion capital of the world and being a supermodel. I had the same dreams they had as a little girl."But size isn't the only thing that matters."Mo'Nique's whole philosophy of life, and the philosophy of the show, is to love yourself, to be the best you can be," says longtime friend and executive producer Don Weiner. Mo'Nique! F.A.T.的意思是“Fabulous And Thick”。

A monkey-like animal seen as an ancestor of monkeys, apes and humans was not as brainy(1) as expected, according to scientists who analyzed its nicely preserved 29-million-year-old skull. The finding indicated that primate(2) brain enlargement evolved later than once thought, the researchers said on Monday. They analyzed a remarkably well-preserved fossilized(3) skull of the little primate Aegyptopithecus(4) zeuxis, which lived in the trees and ate fruit and leaves about 29 million years ago in warm forests in what is now an Egyptian desert.A technique called microcomputerized tomography(5) scanning -- a computerized X-ray method also called micro-CT -- allowed them to determine the dimensions of the animal's brain."What was astonishing is how small this brain is," Duke University primatologist Elwyn Simons, who led the study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, said in a telephone interview."You can also see it's a pretty darn primitive brain. It would be small for a monkey or an ape," Simons added. "So it's telling us that the speed of achievement of brain enlargement in primates was a little slower than perhaps we had thought."This skull of a small female was uncovered in a quarry(6) southwest of Cairo in 2004. It was better preserved than another skull of a larger male of the species found in the same area in 1966.Based on earlier finds, scientists had theorized the species had a relatively large brain. Instead, it had a brain that might have been even smaller than that of a modern lemur, a primate with primitive traits.Simons said that when this primate lived, Africa was an island, limiting the competition for survival. Simons said brain enlargement may have evolved in this lineage after Africa became connected to Asia, bringing in more animals including new and dangerous predators."Brain-volume enlargement is favored under conditions of competition because you need to be smarter," Simons said.

泉州人流手术最低价格Easter Day(复活节) A Sunday between March 22 and April 25The meaning of many different customs observed during Easter Sunday have been buried with time. Their origins lie in pre-Christian religions and Christianity. All in some way or another are a "salute to spring," marking re-birth. The white Easter lily has come to capture the glory of the holiday. The word "Easter" is named after Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring. A festival was held in her honor every year at the vernal equinox (春分).People celebrate the holiday according to their beliefs and their religious denominations (命名). Christians commemorate Good Friday as the day that Jesus Christ died and Easter Sunday as the day that He was resurrected (复活). Protestant settlers brought the custom of a sunrise service, a religious gathering at dawn, to the ed States. This year Easter will be celebrated on Sunday April 11, 2004. On Easter Sunday children wake up to find that the Easter Bunny has left them baskets of candy. He has also hidden the eggs that they decorated earlier that week. Children hunt for the eggs all around the house. Neighborhoods and organizations hold Easter egg hunts, and the child who finds the most eggs wins a prize. The Easter Bunny is a rabbit-spirit. Long ago, he was called the" Easter Hare." Hares and rabbits have frequent multiple births so they became a symbol of fertility. The custom of an Easter egg hunt began because children believed that hares laid eggs in the grass. The Romans believed that "All life comes from an egg." Christians consider eggs to be "the seed of life" and so they are symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Why we dye, or color, and decorate eggs is not certain. In ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and Persia eggs were dyed for spring festivals. In medieval Europe, beautifully decorated eggs were given as gifts. The average American spends a lot of time at work -- more than 1,800 hours a year.
