Don#39;t try to fill it, though, with small talk or anything else. In parts of Northern Europe business people are more comfortable with pauses that can be as long as a minute peppered throughout the conversation, explained Friedman. These breaks are used as a way to process what the other person is saying without interrupting. But a clashing of customs can make it easier to distrust the other side during a meeting, so it#39;s crucial to keep this difference in mind. ;The Americans#39; insistence on breaking the silence causes [the Finnish] to not trust [them],; for instance, said Friedman. ;If someone Finnish gets quiet we wonder what excuses they are contemplating.;比如,弗里德曼说:“美国人总是要打破沉默,导致(芬兰人)不信任(他们)。 Decode the feedback culture破解反馈文化Where: South Korea, Germany国家:韩国,德国When Soboll visits Seoul for business meetings, he anticipates the sort of feedback he will get by first making sure he understands the relationships of those across the table from him. The most junior team member speaks first to give some initial input and the decision maker typically speaks last to make the final call. The feedback order creates a formality to the meeting that helps the participants to understand the significance of each person#39;s input, he adds. German meetings, to that end, can feel equally cool, he said. There#39;s often no way to tell how things are going. ;German clients don#39;t applaud or jump for joy,; he said. ;No one is going to spontaneously say how much they love this work.;他表示,德国人开会在这方面也挺酷。

German company Kaffeeform combines dried coffee grounds and biopolymer to create stylish-looking coffee cups and saucers that are not only durable and dishwasher-safe, but even smell a bit like coffee. For every cup of coffee you brew, about two tablespoons of grounds wind up in the trash. That doesn’t seem like a lot, but just think about the millions of coffees consumed around the world every single day, and you’ll start to see the problem. Sure, some of those coffee grounds are recycled as fertilizer or beauty products like face masks, but most of it ends up at landfills. It was while contemplating this issue that German product designer Julian Lechner came up with a radical new and sustainable way of recycling coffee grounds – turning them into tableware. Lechner first came up with the idea of using coffee grounds to create eco-friendly crockery while attending university in the Italian city of Bolzano. “We were always drinking coffee at university,” he remembers. “Before classes, after classes, meeting friends, hanging out at espresso bars—all the time. And that’s how I started to wonder, What happens to all that coffee? It was all just getting thrown away.” He began consulting with his professors about ways of using coffee grounds to create a solid material, but it took him years to actually come up with a viable solution. “We tried binding with a lot of different things,” Julian Lechner told VICE Munchies. “We even tried sugar. That was close, but basically it was a candy cup. It just kept dissolving after being used three times.” The whole point was to make the material durable, so it was back to the drawing board for him and his partners at a German research institute. Finally, after many failed experiments, long nights and liters of coffee, they came up with a mix of coffee grounds wood grains and a biopolymer of cellulose, lignin, and natural resins that seemed to behave the way Julian had envisioned it when he first embarked on his quest.“我们试着用不同的粘着剂,甚至尝试过用糖。” “The moment of knowing the cup would actually stand was super-exciting,” he recalls. “After such a long time, you have to really believe in an idea and that it can eventually work. It was overwhelming to drink that first coffee out of the cup. It proved to be totally worth the wait.” And the fact that his creation has proven commercially successful is just the icing on the cake. Kaffeeform coffee cups and saucers are now present in ten shops across Europe, and the company can hardly keep up with demand, regularly selling out of its stock online. And they’ve only been in business for a year. “It basically all happened through word of mouth,” Lechner says about the success of his company. “It’s amazing to think of some of the places where orders have come from. A lot of individuals, but also a café in Saudi Arabia, Ritz Carlton Toronto, and the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo to sell in their museum [gift shop].” Kaffeeform will soon launch a larger line of coffee grounds cups for cappuccino, and is also working on a travel mug. But those are just short-term plans, as Lechner hopes to one day use recycled coffee grounds to create all sort of useful stuff. “What’s next? I’d love to see if we could one day create sheets,” he says. “Perhaps they could later be used for furniture in cafés and restaurants.”Kaffeeform公司很快将大量生产一款专门泡卡布奇诺的咖啡杯,同时它也可以作为旅行杯。

A couple of weeks ago, Mashable published this photo recap of Social Media Week. Smack dab in the middle was this close-up shot of myself. I didn#39;t post it to Facebook. My name is Amanda, and I suffer from a syndrome I call the ;Facebook Effect.; The more intertwined Ibecome with social media or any other image-heavy platform, the more obsessed I become with my appearance. And apparently, I#39;m not alone. Doctors say Facebook and -chatting tools like Skype and FaceTime have partly fueled this decade’s boom in plastic surgery. “People will come in and say, ‘I saw myself in the mirror, but I didn’t really notice it until I saw myself on Facebook or on my iPhone or iPad,’” says New York plastic surgeon Adam Schaffner.“人们走进来就会说,‘虽然我常常照镜子,但若不是在Facebook或iPhone,iPad上,我还真的不会去在意自己的外表。’” I#39;ve never considered going under the knife myself. But I do understand how so many of us get to this point. Digital technology exacerbates image issues that a lot of us aly have. And if you#39;re plugged into the digital space like myself, you#39;re probably around a smartphone or webcam every day. Plastic surgery is obviously the most extreme response to fixing the ;flaws.; And I#39;m just not there. So, I set out see if could I cure my Facebook Effect by simply learning my angles. Demetra Kavadeles, Global Public Relations manager, consumer at Skype, says there are ways to trick the camera. She points out small adjustments that can make anyone look years younger on camera. So, I tried them out for myself. 5 Tips for Looking Your Best on Screen5种小心机在视频里呈现最美的自己In the photos at the top of this story, the one on the left was taken without taking into account any of the tips below. The photo on the right is the improved version. Along with these five tips, Kavadeles also recommends doing a test call with a close friend or family member to check both sound and quality. 1. Let in the Light1. Ensure you have several light sources and that they are all indirect to avoid dark shadows or a shiny-face effect. Personally, I have found that putting the light source behind the computer works best. 2. Make Eye Contact2. Look into the webcam and not at the screen. It’s easy to be distracted by the personal preview (the little box that shows how the other person sees you), but this can lead to unflattering postures on camera and a lack of eye contact with the other caller. 3. Beware of Patterns3. While you want to express your personal style, keep in mind that bold patterns can look ;messy; on the viewer#39;s screen. Additionally, some pieces of jewelry can reflect light in a way that distracts the viewer. Less is more with jewelry. And if you wear a pattern, be sure you don#39;t sit in front of one. The best background is a dark, solid color that doesn#39;t clash with you. I conveniently — and unintentionally — wore a pretty bold dress today, so this was interesting to see on camera. 4. Sit up Straight4. Make sure your total upper body — not just your face — is visible in the camera area. To provide you with some comfort, keep in mind the caller on the other side only sees you from the waist up. 5. Angle the Camera5. This is a personal tip of my own. I have often found that looking down at the camera often makes your face seem wider. Place the camera on a surface that#39;s directly in line with your forehead. If you#39;re on a laptop with a built-in camera (like I am in this picture), don#39;t tilt the screen up — always place it on a higher surface and tip it down towards you. When It#39;s Not About the Camera若不是摄像头的问题时While I was overall more satisfied with my webcam appearance when using these tips, this may just be a temporary band-aid. Body dysmorphic disorder is a serious disease with roots too deep to be cured by superficial tips for taking a better picture. In an ideal world, we#39;re all working towards a society that isn#39;t obsessed with image. But truth is that all those Photoshop protests, feel-good commercials and, ironically, articles just like the one you#39;re currently ing only nourish our obsession. In the age of digital, beauty is in the eye of the Internet user. /201607/454561 According to a new study, when you don#39;t feel valued in a relationship, your sleep suffers. Being valued by your partner is more important to your health than you might think. For couples, it turns out how well you think your partner understands and cares for you is linked to how well you sleep. Research published in journal Social Personality and Psychological Science says individuals with responsive partners experience lower anxiety and arousal, which in turns improves their sleep quality. Using data from the Midlife Development in the ed States project and other studies, researchers at Middle East Technical University in Turkey showed connections between partner responsiveness, physical health and psychological wellbeing over several years. ;Having responsive partners who would be available to protect and comfort us is the most effective way for us humans to reduce anxiety, tension and arousal,; said lead author Dr Emre Selcuk.“拥有能够保护、安慰、积极回应我们的伴侣,是人类最有效的减轻焦虑、紧张和刺激的方式。” He says maintaining a loving and supportive relationship doesn#39;t just do wonders for mental health but for physical health too, because one of the most important functions of sleep is to protect us against illness.
