Now, for the first time, it is sending artists abroad as cultural ambassadors. The Obama Administration's new cultural diplomacy program is called smART Power. The Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York oversees the initiative. smART Power"I think it's fantastic," says Holly Block, the museum's director. "The Bronx Museum itself has done quite a few projects related to community engagement and [having artists] work closely with the community, as well as international artists all over the world. So this fits perfectly. This is the first opportunity I think we've ever had where we're actually able to send U.S.-based artists outside [the U.S.]. Normally we receive artists." Block says visual artists - including painters, sculptors, architects, designers - may apply for the program starting January 3. They will submit their materials with a concept," she explains. "We'll expect them to write a small narrative on what they would like to do. But the idea of this project is really special in the sense that you need to think about community and think about visiting this place and creating a project that's in relationship with maybe some topic that's aly going on there, or some of the ideas that you bring to them. We will be working very closely with the artists in selecting partner sites to receive the artists and help them realize their work."“艺术家们需要提交一些资料,显示要表达的概念。 Reporter: EBay's headquarters in California are powered by revolutionary new boxy fuel cells that look just like big refrigerators. The innovative green technology stems from Silicon Valley startup Bloom Energy. The company says its fuel cells produce more power with less environmental damage than others on the market because they aren't reliant on just hydrogen to trigger the chemical reactions that create power.Rather, it can use wind, solar power and whatever else is available depending on the community, although Bloom Energy doesn't offer more details about how that works.KR Sridhar, principal co-founder and CEO of Bloom Energy, says the power is produced when you use it."Bloom Energy server is the equivalent of your mobile phone without a wire, compared to the landline telephone that had copper wires. What this is, is producing power at the point that you use it, outside your building - that's called distributor generation and Bloom Energy server does that for you using a fuel cell technology."The technology is aly being used at major companies such as Google and eBay, but analysts warn that the technology has yet to be widely proven.201003/97668安庆治疗早泄需要多少钱

A new vaccine is one step towards a distant goal一种新疫苗让人类离消灭疟疾更近了一步MAN has vanquished only one disease, smallpox. In 2007 Bill Gates set out to eradicate another, malaria. The World Health Organisation (WHO) was soon rallying its troops to the cause and a flood of money followed. 2m went to research in alone. This week the Bill amp; Melinda Gates Foundation trumpeted another announcement: results from a phase III trial (the more extensive process of testing drugs in people) of a malaria vaccine called RTS,S. This is the worldrsquo;s most advanced vaccine for malaria and the results, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, were encouraging. It is an important step in combating a disease that still kills more than 700,000 people a year and debilitates millions more. But it is also a reminder of how much work remains to be done. Mr Gates is only malariarsquo;s latest adversary. The parasite has plagued man for millennia. Chinese texts from 2700 describe plants to treat its fevers. More recently, in 1955, the WHO embarked on its first malaria-eradication effort. But transmission rates in Africa seemed intractable. After 14 years the WHO gave up. The last time the world tried to eliminate malaria, some scientists lament, the world eliminated malariologists. The new wave of enthusiasm came with the founding of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership in 1998 (to co-ordinate planning), the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative in 1999 (with money from the Gates Foundation) and the ed Nationsrsquo; Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in 2002. This culminated in Mr Gatesrsquo;s call to arms four years ago and has helped to lower the number of malaria deaths by 20% over the past decade. More progress will be difficult. The existing tools of insecticide-treated bed nets and treatment drugs require careful co-ordination and good health systems. Eliminating malaria in a stable country is dramatically easier than doing so in a turbulent one. Worryingly, these tools may become less effective. Parasites in South-East Asia, for example, seem to be developing resistance to artemisinin-based treatments. To achieve eradication;or anything close to it;new weapons are needed. RTS,S, developed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a British pharmaceutical company, will help. The vaccine tries to stop one type of malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum, before it has a chance to wreak havoc. A mosquitorsquo;s bite delivers malaria to the body. Travelling swiftly to the liver, the parasites hide, mature and multiply before staging a grand second act in the bloodstream, where they invade red blood cells, multiply again, and invade more cells. RTS,S combines a circumsporozoite protein, which exists on the parasitersquo;s surface, with a protein from a hepatitis B vaccine. Together, these trigger an immune response which can fight off invading parasites before the second act. GSK tested the vaccine in 6,000 infants across sub-Saharan Africa. It reduced the risk of clinical malaria by 56% and severe malaria by 47%. This efficacy was ;on the positive side of what we were expecting,; says Christian Loucq of the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative, GSKrsquo;s partner on RTS,S. However, more is to come. The trial examined children aged 5-17 months. Results for younger babies will follow. Still uncertain is how long the vaccinersquo;s protection lasts. The first year that the vaccine might be used would be 2015, and that is if everything goes as planned. Even then, it is unclear how RTS,S might be deployed. Its price is uncertain and its power limited. ;We realise that RTS,S is not the ultimate malaria vaccine,; says David Brandling-Bennett of the Gates Foundation. ;But it will have some role. The challenge is figuring out what that role is.;然而,更多的试验紧随其后。 ;Researchers are aly working on the next generation of vaccines. GSK hopes to induce a stronger immune response by combining RTS,S with a vaccine from Crucell, another drug firm. Scientists are also keen to develop vaccines that target different kinds of malaria parasites and in different ways;for example, in mosquitoesrsquo; guts. All of this work requires further investment at a time when global health programmes must compete fiercely for cash. Mr Gates has helped to spur progress. Sustaining it is the next challenge. What exactly is the power that drives nature's most famous jaws? In New Zealand, this great white shark drowned in a fisherman's net. And scientists Kara Yopak and Clinton Duffy are preparing an ultra-rare great white shark dissection."Ah, I've never dissected one that is the size before."It's a unique opportunity to study a great white's near-perfect design, including its fearsome jaws."The jaws of great white are really, really valuable. So most of the time, if we do get a specimen to measure, it looks a little bit more like this. Not nearly as pretty. That fishermen know pretty much. We're catching animal of, yes, for, um, a fishing competition or even just in its net. Um, we'll remove the jaws and quite often its fins as well. The jaws are amazingly valuable. Uh, they can go anywhere, from ten to twenty thousand dollars. Um, you can see them, I mean, being sold on eBay. It's kind of such a status symbol. Everybody knows the great white shark. When you have an idea of shark in your head, it's gonna be this one."Look at the jaws. The jaws of a great white are evolutionary marvel. They actually burst forward, allowing for a bite that shears up to 30 pounds of flesh in a single mouthful. About 50 teeth lie in the front of a great white's jaws. The lower teeth act like daggers, stabbing and holding prey in place. The larger upper teeth are like steak knives, slicing off giant mouthfuls of a victim. And behind this front row of teeth are literally hundreds of others, y to be pressed into service. But to truly understand this extreme design, you have to go beneath the skin.Unlike human beings, the great white's jaws aren't fused to the skull. They hang loosely underneath the braincase, y to execute their signature bite. First, the snout rises and opens the mouth. At the same time, the lower jaw pushes down, widening the gape. Next, special muscles in grooves in the skull push the upper jaw forward, exposing gums and teeth. The lower jaw rises, latching onto the prey, and the snout slams down, hammering the upper jaw with almost 700 pounds of force. These extraordinary teeth are clearly designed to kill, but they may also serve another purpose: delivering a message to other great whites."She actually has some scarring out here. You can see where this scar's coming down, turn around underneath the eye. The ones on the side of a pectoral fin, they appear to be shark bites. This one is likely to be a tooth mark, possibly another shark. These guys are not necessarily one big happy family when they get together."Great whites can be covered in battle scars. It's believed they bite one another to assert dominance, compete for a meal and even to mate."How these guys get together, of course, and don't kill each other is an, it's a really interesting question."12/92862安庆市海军医院男科预约
