The age-old riddle of why many women live longer than men has been solved. It's their pumping power, British researchers have found. On average, women live five years longer than men and women over the age of 60 are now the fastest-growing section of the British population. The average male heart becomes weaker with age, and by the age of 70 its power to pump blood around the body could have decreased by up to a quarter of its youthful strength.David Goldspink, Professor of Cell and Molecular Sports Science at Liverpool John Moores University, said that women's longevity is linked to the strength of their hearts. Unlike men, they pump just as strongly at 70 as they do at 20."We have found that the power of the male heart falls by 20-25 per cent between 18 and 70 years of age," Professor Goldspink said. "In stark contrast, over the same period there was no age-related decline in the power of the female heart, meaning that the heart of a healthy 70-year-old woman could perform almost as well as a 20-year-old's."The dramatic difference between the sexes might explain why women live longer. The good news is that men of any age can improve the health of their heart simply by taking more regular exercise. The results are based on the findings of a two-year study of a cross-section of the British population, which examined the effects of ageing on the cardiovascular system.Professor Goldspink and a team of scientists at the university's Research for Human Development and Ageing examined more than 250 men and women between 18 and 80.None of the volunteers had a weekly exercise routine and all were considered to have low fitness levels, but were otherwise healthy. Each volunteer underwent five hours of tests to measure their blood pressure and the performance of their heart while at rest and while they exercised on a tmill. The researchers found that the large arteries in the body became stiffer and less elastic with age, causing increased blood pressure. Blood flow to the muscles and skin of the limbs was also found progressively to decrease. These changes were found to occur earlier in men, but women caught up soon after the menopause. I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the ed States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the ed States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the ed States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God. I, [name], [swear by Almighty God] [do solemnly, sincerely and truly affirm and declare] that, on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her heirs, and successors, according to law. I will give my loyalty to the ed Kingdom and respect its rights and freedoms. A school has brought in a masseuse to calm stressed pupils preparing for GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) and boost their performance in the exams. The 30-minute sessions are being offered to 15 and 16-yearolds who are considered at risk of missing out on good grades.Twenty-five have had regular back massages from professional therapist Karen Etchells since the scheme was introduced three months ago at Priory Community School in Westonsuper-Mare, Somerset. The first massage is free, but pupils must pay £5 a time after that for the sessionswhich take place once a week on a Friday.Headmaster Neville Coles said they had proved particularly popular among the boys--especially the rugby team.He hopes the initiative will give GCSE results a lift."This is a high-pressure time for Year 11 students," Mr Coles said. "They work extremely hard and do get stressed. We have basically employed a masseuse to come in for a day. It is a mechanism to de-stress the kids and improve their exam results. ""At a time when we are constantly encouraging our Year 11 students to be at their very best and revise for their GCSEs we also want to provide relaxation activities. Massage is just one of these."Mr Coles said 32 per cent of pupils scored five GCSEs at grades A to C in the year before last . This had risen to 55 per cent last year and the school was aiming for 60 per cent this year. /200812/58174

The majority of people who look at their health usually start off their quest for wellness with losing weight. In this month of February, as people are still working on their goals and resolutions, there are more advertisements and promotions for weight loss and fitness s, programs and workouts.I set myself on the quest to compile a list of 40 ways one could lose weight fast and more importantly keep off putting the weight back on. The list is by no means conclusive, but it is a collection of ideas, methods and strategies from all around the world.1. Count your calories - the most straightforward method is simply to count up the number of calories you take in and the number of calories you give off and then you simply give off more calories than you take in.2. Increase your dietary protein by having a protein shake at least once a day. Protein will help your body facilitate weight loss and can be important to a good plan.3. Pay attention to what you eat. Document it daily in your journal and consciously create more water-rich healthier meals.4. Buddy up. Find a friend who is also interested in weight loss and work together, giving each other support in your plans. The support and accountability a friend gives is massive. The Get A Life 2008 system provides a great structure for this.5. Decrease your carb intake. Eat less b and pasta.6. Avoid junk food altogether. No more McDonalds, Burger Kind, KFC. Junk food gives you “empty calories” and unneeded weight loss.7. Keep hydrated. Drink lots of water throughout the day. Read about starting your day with a pint of water in the free How to Live Healthy in an Unhealthy World book.8. Plan your workouts. Your workouts need to be planned - journal exactly what you’re going to do and make sure you follow it strictly for a few weeks.9. Get some good sleep. Sleep is vital to body rejuvenation and repair so make sure you get some good sleep and keep your timings consistent. Lack of sleep can contribute to lack of weight loss.10. Go on a juice detox.11. Listen to subliminal or self-hypnosis weight loss CDs or downloads.12. A positive attitude. Get your attitude in check and realise the outlook is positive when you get going and sheding the amount of weight you want to lose.13. Accept how weight loss works. This one is important. Some people don’t want to accept the natural processes of body and are looking for quick rewards. Weight loss takes place over time so be consistent and committed, and you will see big results.14. Keep hunger quiet. When you feel hungry, opt for fresh fruit or a glass of water. This will help cover the hunger.15. Get your free gym trial and see if it’s for you. Meet with a personal trainer and map out your plan for weight loss. These guys are the experts in helping you get a safe plan that meets your time schedules.16. Follow Honey Kalaria’s Bollywood Workout, also used by Madonna - a fun way to workout and lose weight.17. Read Tom Venuto’s “Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle” and all his extra free bonuses.18. Increase Metabolism. If you’re having trouble losing weight, try a natural supplement that helps do this.19. Go on a low fat diet. Low fat is good for your heart too.20. The Atkins Diet. This seems to work as there are success stories but many people feel nauseated by the high fat content. It also doesn’t seem to keep you healthy for life.21. Lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks.22. Try the Lemonade Diet and Master Cleanse.23. Form a new weight loss habit in 21 days.24. Take Suvaril. This is a revolutionary weight loss pill helping people achieve healthy and great looking bodies the natural way.25. Eat only until satisfied. Too many people eat and eat and eat even if they’ve had enough. Eat only till your satisfied.26. Jog up a hill. Hills are like lifting weights for runners. Do this only if you have enough endurance built up. It will also help convert useful fat to a little muscle.27. Follow Leo’s Zen Weight Loss plan.28. Stay away from sweetened and fizzy drinks.29. Drink a glass of water before you start the meal. Water naturally needs some space so that you feel fuller without actually having to stuff yourself.30. Stay away from fried foods. Fried foods are fried in oil or fat. And even if the external oil is drained away, there is still a lot of hidden oil in it so stay away from it.31. Avoid chocolate. Chocolates are not or at least they should not be a part of your diet. So do not indulge too much in them.32. Consider going Vegetarian or Vegan. Here’s how.33. Eat 5 to 6 small meals a day instead of three large meals. It is an excellent way of having smaller quantities of food.34. No more beer. Beer can be fattening if had on a regular basis.35. Boil your vegetables instead of cooking them, or even better, eat them fresh.36. Do not be a couch potato.37. Try out Carol Vorderman’s 28 Day Detox Diet.38. Attend The Raw Food Party with Peter Pure.39. Try yoga. Yoga is one of the best ways of losing weight. And it seems to be massive in 2008!40. Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone’s plans, body and patterns are different. Work at your own pace. /200810/51290

The Everyone has periods in their lives when everything seems very hard, when there’s nobody to talk to and the mood is just getting worse and worse. But why sit and think howpathetic you are? There are some things that may help you lift up your mood. If it fails you, at least while doing these things you won’t have time to think of your problems. You win anyway! The first thing you should try is socializing and thinking positively. It’s very hard, because usually when we feel depressed we lock ourselves at home and try to think about all the bad character issues we have. But if you’ll try to force yourself and call a friend for a cup of coffee, the chances for changing your mood into better are very good. Just try to avoid bad thoughts. Instead, try to think only about the bright side of your life. Don’t forget: We are what we think we are. You should also try doing something only for yourself, something totally selfish. This could be something you wanted for a long time: maybe a short trip, a coat, a ring or anything that could lift up your mood. This doesn’t have to be extravagant nor costly. The point of all this is being good to yourself. /201108/148971。

A mixed-race couple who had one black and one white twin daughter seven years ago have described how they defied the odds and did it again. Skip related contentDean Durrant, 33, and Alison Spooner, 27, of Fleet, Hampshire, have had another set of twin girls with different coloured skin.Miya has her father's black skin and Leah is white like her mother. The couple's first set of twins arrived in 2001, with blue-eyed, red-haired Lauren taking after her mother while Hayleigh has black skin and hair like her father.Ms Spooner told Sky News: "I honestly didn't think it would happen again."I thought we would have two the same - and I didn't think we'd have twins again for a start. That was a shock," she said. The couple tried to put a bet on just in case but say bookies William Hill refused because the did not have the medical knowledge to offer them odds.Rupert Adams, a spokesman for William Hill, said some novelty bets are difficult to offer fair odds on.However, the bookes will try and offer a price if the couple want to make it third time lucky."If they came to us again saying they would try for another set, we'd give them odds of 10,000 to one," he said.Miya and Leah were delivered by Caesarean section at Frimley Park Hospital, in Surrey, at just 37 weeks of pregnancy after scans revealed both babies were in the breech position.Mr Durrant said he began to suspect they were different colours when second-born Miya arrived. He explained: "I was sure in my mind there was a difference but I didn't think it was as much as with Hayleigh and Lauren but obviously it is."The babies were taken to a special care unit because they were not breathing properly so it took five days for the parents to see them side by side."It's amazing," Mr Durrant added. "I think I'm still in shock." The little blue cartoon Smurfs are planning to celebrate their 50th birthday this year with a new TV series, books and a film, their human promoters said Monday.Throughout 2008, 20 European cities will be flooded by the minute characters only "three apples high" as in the cartoons. The Belgium cartoonist Pierre Culliford, best known by his pen name, "Peyo," first introduced the tiny blue figures in a comic strip in October 1958. He called them Schtroumpf and they became known worldwide as the Smurfs."The invasion will begin on January 20 and end in October," said Hendrick Coysman, head of the Belgian-based IMPS group which holds the rights to the cartoon characters and is controlled by Peyo's widow Nine and children Veronique and Thierry Culliford. The sale of tens of thousands of small figurines will benefit the ed Nations Children's Fund, Coysman said.A much larger Smurf statue, decorated by an unnamed celebrity, will be auctioned off on October 23, the 50th birthday date, with the proceeds also going to the UN's children's fund. The Smurfs are also to head back to the big screen with a co-production with the US Paramount film group, Coysman said.In an apparent nod to gender parity, new female characters will also be introduced to the Smurf village to help out Schtroumpfette, the only female. The cartoonist Peyo died in 1992 at age 64. Since then, his family and collaborators have continued his work "in the same spirit of humour and creativity," IMPS said in a statement.Since their humble origins in the Belgian children's comic-strip magazine Spirou, the Smurfs have sold 25 million cartoon albums worldwide in 25 languages.A testament of their enduring popularity: One million Smurf DVDs were sold last year alone, Coysman said. The job of raising children is a tough one. Children don't come with an instruction manual. And each child is different. So parents sometimes pull their hair out in frustration, not knowing what to do. But in raising children-as in all of life-what we do is influenced by our culture. Naturally then, American parents teach their children basic American values. To Americans, the goal of parents is to help children stand on their own two feet. From infancy, each child may get his or her own room. As children grow, they gain more freedom to make their own choices. Teenagers choose their own forms of entertainment, as well as the friends to share them with. When they reach young adulthood, they choose their own careers and marriage partners. Of course, many young adults still seek their parents' advice and approval for the choices they make. But once they "leave the nest" at around 18 to 21 years old, they want to be on their own, not "tied to their mother's apron strings." The relationship between parents and children in America is very informal. American parents try to treat their children as individuals-not as extensions of themselves. They allow them to fulfill their own dreams. Americans praise and encourage their children to give them the confidence to succeed. When children become adults, their relationship with their parents becomes more like a friendship among equals. But contrary to popular belief, most adult Americans don't make their parents pay for room and board when they come to visit. Even as adults, they respect and honor their parents. Most young couples with children struggle with the issue of childcare. Mothers have traditionally stayed home with their children. In recent years, though, a growing trend is to put preschoolers in a day care center so Mom can work. Many Americans have strong feelings about which type of arrangement is best. Some argue that attending a day care center can be a positive experience for children. Others insist that mothers are the best caregivers for children. A number of women are now leaving the work force to become full-time homemakers. Disciplining children is another area that American parents have differing opinions about. Many parents feel that an old-fashioned spanking helps youngsters learn what "No!" means. Others prefer alternate forms of discipline. For example, "time outs" have become popular in recent years. Children in "time out" have to sit in a corner or by a wall. They can get up only when they are y to act nicely. Older children and teenagers who break the rules may be grounded, or not allowed to go out with friends. Some of their privileges at home-like TV or telephone use-may also be taken away for a while. Although discipline isn't fun for parents or children, it's a necessary part of training. Being a parent is a tall order. It takes patience, love, wisdom, courage and a good sense of humor to raise children (and not lose your sanity). Some people are just deciding not to have children at all, since they're not sure it's worth it. But raising children means training the next generation and preserving our culture. What could be worth more than that?

She challenges himA girl who knows herself well and feels proud of herself is most attractive. It is the same to the single men. A girl who makes the man chase her hard is more appealing to the men. /200911/89089

  1. Ex-BoyfriendsA big fat “DUH” better have escaped from your lips when you this, but it merits mention on this list. For your close, “sisterhood of the traveling pants” gaggle of girlfriends, this is one thing that will NEVER work out well. Let’s face it, unless you are a woman who considers “exes” guys you’ve had two or three dinners with, keep your ex boyfriends where they belong: trolling the streets wondering why they let you go. Oh and nowhere near any of your dear friends.

1. Be prepared for sudden job loss. According to federal data, the US lost 2.6 million jobs in 2008. And some experts are predicting that another 2 million may be lost over the course of 2009. Don't ignore the odds. It can happen to you, so be sure you're y to start interviewing immediately. This means your resume should be up to date and y to send in a moment's notice, you should have at least one interview outfit cleaned and hanging in your closet, and your online networks should be current. Reaching out to people immediately after news breaks of layoffs at your company can seem disingenuous. It's best to connect with other professionals when they won't feel pressured by your request. 2. Network with your neighbors. Forget rubbing elbows with strangers at networking mixers. Your next professional opportunity could come while you're mowing the lawn, walking your dog, or on your building's elevator. According to a report entitled "Place of Work and Place of Residence: Informal Hiring Networks and Labor Market Outcomes" authored by Patrick Bayer, associate professor of economics at Duke University, and others, "Residing on the same [block] versus nearby blocks increases the probability of working together by over 33 percent." So, help your neighbor shovel his walkway. Hold the door for the woman who lives above you. Be extra nice to the kids playing in front of your home. Host a dinner party for some of the folks on your street. Your future boss could be living on your block! Explore your options in health care. No matter what is happening with the economy, people still require medical care. And with a growing and graying population, a notorious nursing shortage, and the addition of 372,000 health-care jobs nationally in 2008 (while other industries practically perished), health-care promises to remain hot. Whether you're a care provider, an administrative professional, a food services worker, an IT specialist, or a marketing executive, your local medical centers or health-related businesses may have a position for which you're qualified. 4. Plan for your own future. If you want to pursue another profession or entrepreneurship in the future, lay the groundwork now. Being goal-oriented will help you remain positive during dark days, and running your own business can put your career's future in your own hands. Also, you'll be in good company. President Obama is a small-business supporter, and Florida-based Internet marketing and website promotion agency Jorn and Price Marketing are predicting an increase in startups, saying, "New online startups will be everywhere. There are lots of very skilled people that have been and will be laid off or asked to take unacceptable cuts in pay. Many of these people will decide to go into business for themselves rather than fight a tough job market." If you could lose almost any job at any time, isn't it better to be your own boss? After all, not many folks would fire themselves. 5. Save some money in a very safe place. In a mad world, you never know when you'll need a little mad money. So make sure you've got some on hand. Having a stash of cash -- at least six months of living expenses -- can make you breathe easier in scary times and give you the confidence you need to make careful choices about your professional life. In other words, you won't have to jump at the first job offer you get if it doesn't seem like a good fit. The stock market proved to be an unreliable piggy bank in 2008, with Kiplinger magazine calling it "the worst bear market since the 1930s." So, do yourself a favor and accrue the king of all liquid assets in a manner in which you know you'll have it when you need it. /200902/62003

There was even a nominee to who goes the baby. The pregnant celebrities at the Oscar were Nicole Kidman, Jessica Alba and most noticeably Cate Blanchett who all brought baby bumps to the Academy Awards. And though Angelina Jolie was nowhere to be found, hers got a bigshout-outfrom host Jon Stewart, who noted the number of actresses who are expecting for several times."This is so exciting. The baby goes to ... Angelina Jolie," Jon Stewart said, opening a fake envelope as photos of Blanchett, Alba and Kidman flashed on the screen. "Angelina couldn't be with us tonight. It's tough to get 17 babysitters on Oscar night. I’ll accept this baby on her behalf."Nicole Kidman arrives at the show with Keith Urban with whom she is expecting her first child.Pregnant in purple Cate Blanchett, nominee for best actress for "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" and for best supporting actress for "I'm Not There", is closest to term for what will be a third child with playwright husband Andrew Upton. She presents the Oscar for best art direction during the 80th annual Academy Awards in Hollywood.Alba, with fiancee Cash Warren at her side, was serene in a deep purple strapless gown with purple feathers decorating her bodice. She cleared the air over recent reports that she's expecting twins! "That would be a surprise to me," Alba joked to Mark and Dayna on the Oscars red carpet."I'm not really terribly nervous," she said before the show. "Being pregnant is like taking a sedative."During one of his monologues, host Jon Stewart poked fun of pregnant Angelina Jolie. He said, “Earlier, I mentioned there were two very famous quite pregnant actresses here tonight. Actually, I was incorrect. I’ve become aware that there’s a third. Jessica Alba is pregnant, Cate Blanchett is pregnant and Nicole Kidman is pregnant.”Continuing his joke, Jon gave out an imaginary Oscar: “The baby goes to…. (drumroll) Angelina Jolie. ”Jolie and partner Brad Pitt are expecting their second child together. They are the parents of 1-year-old Shiloh, and three children adopted from Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam. Their adopted children are Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; and Zahara, 3.

Astology is the study of how events on earth or people’s lives are influenced by the positions and movements of heavenly bodies, particularly the sun, the moon, planets, and stars. Astrologers believe that the position of heavenly bodies at the exact moment of a person’s birth and the later movements of the bodies reflect that person’s character and, therefore, destiny. For many years, scientists have rejected the principles of astrology. However, millions of people throughout the world continue to believe in or practice it. Some people ask the advice of an astrologer before making important decisions. Other people don’t take astrology seriously but have interest in it and occasionally general advice published in newspaper “horoscope” columns. Astrologers learn about the influence of the heavenly bodies on what happens on the earth by casting(drawing) a circular chart called a horoscope, which shows the position of heavenly bodies at certain times, such as when a person in born. When casting a horoscope, astrologers have to take four elements into consideration: the earth, the zodiac, the planets, and the houses. /200905/69921
