Sometimes it is difficult to understand your parents for they are from a different generation. Yes, we know how it feels but remember friends, your folks are the ones who picked you up every time you fell down when you were young. Here are top 5 ways to convey your love to them. 1. Don’t send them gifts only on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day1、不要只在母亲节和父亲节才给他们送礼物Do you regularly give gifts to your partner? Does your partner give you gifts from time to time? Well, we see no reason to exclude your parents from your gifting list. Give them small gifts from time to time to convey your love. 2. Spend more time with them2、多陪陪父母If the CEO of the world’s biggest company can take time out to meet his parents, so can you. Remember ladies, work and other little troubles of life will come and go, but your parents are here to stay. Go meet them often and spend more time in their lovely company. 3. Go through your childhood pictures with them3、和父母一起浏览你童年的照片We will never understand how it feels to spend great times with children until we have our own. Why don’t you prepare an album of your childhood and go through it with your parents? They will love remembering the ‘good old times’. 4. Make your partner pay them ‘surprise visits’4、让你的另一半去拜访你的父母,给他们惊喜We think that all parents will love it if the partners of their children go and visit them. It gives them a sense of an ‘extended family’. And deep down inside, they will know that you’re in safe hands. I was running an errand this afternoon and just thought of giving you a quick call and saying hi. How are you?” How difficult is it to say this line over the phone? Your call will bring a smile to their faces.“你好妈妈。 It doesn’t take a lot to make your parents feel loved. Make our tips a part of your routine and we assure you that your parents will feel the warmth and love that they deserve. As the temperature drops dramatically, the battle between fashion and pragmatism now revolves around whether to wear long johns. South Korea President Lee Myung-bak last month called on his people to ;wear long johns to save energy; in his biweekly radio address. ;I have recently lowered the thermostat in the place I work. Naturally, I had to wear long johns which were uncomfortable initially. But after a while, I got used to them, and now I am very comfortable wearing them,; said Lee. ;Sure long johns do a good job keeping people warm. But for many people, they have been something for grandparents, or rather, they are a fashion no-no. In 2008, Su Mang, chief editor of the Chinese version of fashion magazine Bazaar indicated that wearing long johns compromised fashion.2008年时,时尚杂志《时尚芭莎》中国版主编苏芒曾表示穿秋裤有损时尚。;I never allow people around me to wear long johns,; Su said in a talk show with TV anchor Chen Luyu. ;But things seem to be different for long johns ever since last year. A number of important designer labels, including Jean Paul Gaultier, D amp; G and Dries Van Noten, all showed variations of long johns on their 2010/2011 fall/winter runways. And British actor Jude Law even sported a pair of long johns at a London airport earlier last year, together with a loosely structured jacket and T-shirt, which made a lot of jaws drop. ;It#39;s a very British thing,; explained British designer Victoria Barlett to The New York Times. ;Long johns were first made popular in the 19th century by the English company John Smedley which still produces them today. But Jude Law is not the only celebrity heartthrob that loves the garments. British soccer star David Beckham is another big fan. ;They are very cool,; Beckham told UK newspaper The Sun in September. ;What#39;s more, Beckham has pledged to put the sexy back into long johns. He is designing his own line of long johns which will hit stores in February 2012 just in time for Valentine#39;s Day. If anyone can make long johns sexy, Beckham could be the man to do it. 词汇点津:long johns 长内衣裤,秋裤 /201201/167671Asian character tattoos have long been in style, with millions of brooding youths, aging hippies and pseudo-intellectuals seeking to express their world view via a couple of exotic-looking symbols etched into their skin. But many of the body art enthusiasts with a taste for the ‘Orient#39; do not bother to research what is it exactly they are having permanently inked on their ankle or lower back, to disastrous - and hilarious - results. The Hanzi Smatter blog, run by Tian Tang, has been trying to set the record straight by chronicling the ‘misuse of Chinese characters in Western culture#39; and translating would-be ‘Asian#39; tattoos for the benefit his ers. In the best-case scenario, the symbols turn out to be meaningless gibberish designed to look like an actual word, or a poor translation of a Western name into Chinese. But at times, Tian encounters real head-scratchers. In one case, a fierce ‘Outlaw#39; tattoo ended up translating to the less-than-threatening ‘Hiding Criminal,#39; or alternatively, a ‘Snitch.#39;时不时唐天还会引用一些具体的案例,比如,有一个人想用纹身表达;逃犯;,却误翻成了;藏匿犯;,或者也有的写作了;贼;。In a more macabre twist, a tattoo that was supposed to say ‘Fear No Man#39; improbably turned out to be ‘Coffin Man. On a similar note, one young lady wished to have the word ‘Bitch#39; carved into her skin, but the artist took some liberties with the language and instead inked the words ‘Cheap Whore#39;. In many cases, the calligraphy is so poor and the combination of symbols appears so random that it is hard for Tang to figure out what exactly the person getting the tattoo had in mind when he or she went to get inked. Among the more colourful examples in this category is ‘Golden Pig#39; (with the symbol for ‘Pig#39; upside down); ‘I Am slow/Pregnant#39; and ‘My Abusive Husband Pimps Me Out.#39;#39;最鲜亮的例子就是;金猪;纹身(猪字还倒过来了),;我很慢/我怀了;,以及;恶夫将我卖;。But nothing captures the predicament of getting a tattoo in a language you don#39;t know than the case of the person who meant to get inked with symbols for ‘Loyalty,#39; only to end up with ‘Noodles#39; permanently carved into his body.

Thank you. I'm honored to be with you today for your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. Truth be told, I never graduated from college and this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories. The first story is about connecting the dots. I dropped out of Reed College after the first six months but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out? It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife, except that when I popped out, they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking, "We've got an unexpected baby boy. Do you want him?" They said, "Of course." My biological mother found out later that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would go to college. This was the start in my life. And 17 years later, I did go to college, but I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents' savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn't see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and no idea of how college was going to help me figure it out, and here I was, spending all the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out, I could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me and begin dropping in on the ones that looked far more interesting. It wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms. I returned Coke bottles for the five-cent deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the seven miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example. Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer was beautifully hand-calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and sans-serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating. None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me, and we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts, and since Windows just copied the Mac, it's likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on that calligraphy class and personals computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college, but it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later. Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards, so you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something--your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever--because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the difference.
